Teen DolphinLabs are six-day programs that engage teens aged 15-17 in the amazing world of dolphins. Students meet DRC's resident dolphin and sea lion population, learning to respect and identify each animal as an individual through observation of their unique behavioral and physical characteristics. Through observation time, live demonstrations, and dockside and in-water interactive programs, students will foster special connections with DRC’s animal family, and learn from the best teachers - the dolphins and sea lions!
The courses include a unique blend of hour-long discussion based seminars, observation time, interactive programs, and hands-on activities. Class sizes average eight to ten students to ensure individualized instruction.
Teen DolphinLab learning activities differ from each course to build upon the foundation and information from the previous Lab.
Teen Basic DolphinLab is an experiential learning program that surveys a wide range of knowledge, theories and ongoing research concerning dolphins, the marine environment, and related issues. In this terrific introductory course, students meet our resident dolphin, sea lion, and bird families, learning to identify and respect each as an individual. Through observation time, live demonstrations, and interactive programs, students will foster special connections with DRC’s animal family, and learn from the best teachers - the dolphins and sea lions!
Teen Intermediate DolphinLab builds on the knowledge and experience gained in Teen Basic DolphinLab, while still incorporating plenty of fun along with quality educational information. This program not only features the advanced study of dolphins, but also explores other marine mammals, including sea lions, manatees, river dolphins, and more.
Teen Marine Mammal Care and Basic Training DolphinLab builds on the knowledge and experience gained in both Teen Basic and Teen Intermediate DolphinLabs. During this immersive program, students work closely with our Education and Animal Care and Training staff, with a hands-on approach to learning about basic training methods and husbandry care practices with DRC’s dolphin family.
