The courses include a unique blend of hour-long discussion based seminars, observation time, interactive programs, and hands-on activities. Class sizes average eight to ten students to ensure individualized instruction.
Dolphin Research Center's Adult DolphinLab courses offer experiential education at its finest. Each program features hands-on interactive activities and observation time with the dolphins, and an interesting, informative mix of dock-side demonstrations, hour-long discussion based seminars, workshops, and more. You'll learn from the best teachers of all - the dolphins themselves. Your human instructors are all highly experienced in the marine mammal field.
One mission of Dolphin Research Center is to teach our relationship-based training style to those entering the animal training field. No previous animal training is required, but it is helpful. In our Dolphin Academy program, we work with small groups of students on-site - no more than 6 per class. This ensures students maximum dolphin time and focus of the trainers/instructors.
The DRC Training Institute offers a Professional Animal Trainer (PAT) Program as continuing education to individuals currently working in the animal training/handling field or those who have at minimum, one year of consecutive training/handling experience within the past two years. While the program’s focus is marine mammals, the courses offered can be applied for trainers who work with both marine and terrestrial animals.
